Love Bear Creek Lodge We had a family gathering at Bear Creek Lodge and had a wonderful time. Out (Our) host George was very accommodating and had the Lodge in tip top shape. All the bedrooms were extremely nice There were plenty of restrooms for the group of 9 people. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare the meals. The Living Room, sitting room off the kitchen, Dining Room were all very nice and would accommodate a larger group than ours. The game room and pool room was nice for the kids and for the adults. This was our second time staying at the Lodge. I highly recommend it. We spent one day in Traverse City and one day in Grayling. Thank you George for allowing us to stay at your Lodge. We tried to take good care of it!

Great stay at Bear Creek Lodge!

5/5

We had such an amazing time at the lodge! There were 3 families that stayed together with kids ranging in ages from 4-15, and there was always something for everyone to do. The younger kids loved playing in the creek that is very close by, while the middle aged kids played pool and the older kids rode quads and played yard games. We did not hear the words "I'm bored" once, which as a parent is awesome! All the adults had a great time as well. This property is perfect for a big group, as there are so many different things to do. We played yard games and explored during the day, and had fires at night, while all the kids used the big property to play hide and seek games in the dark.

The lodge is so well stocked! George even provides towels, paper towel, TP, and wood for the fire. George is very responsive too, we weren't sure where the creek was on our first day and he called me back right away with detailed instructions on how to get there. He was even nice enough to mail us back clothes that my daughter had left in one of the drawers.

I highly recommend this property to anyone looking to have some time away and enjoy the quiet life off the beaten path. We would definitely return to this property!

Such a unique property!!

We had a group of 16 celebrating an 80th Birthday and could not have asked for a nicer place to stay! There is so much room to spread out! We enjoyed cooking together in the large kitchen, eating at the huge dining table, nature walks, bonfires and just being together making memories at such a peaceful and unique place. George is quick to answer any questions you have. We all highly recommend Bear Creek Lodge!!

Fantastic Find

This is a wonderful place to stay with your family. There are games, toys, puzzles inside and out. We kayaked three times with the AuSable being so close. If you love the outdoors and need a place to relax, this is your place.

Epic Family Vacation!

If you are looking for a family adventure, this is the place. This historic lodge is HUGE! This isn't your typical lay-on-the-beach place. Instead, this is your: fishing in the river, horseshoe tournament, Baggo championship, trail exploring, bike riding, river tubing, Smores making, game playing, firefly watching, pingpong playing, chair in the river, and being with your family place! George has stocked this lodge with every amenity one could ever need, so you can pack light. Nostalgia buffs will enjoy the rustic and unique decor with which the lodge is tastefully decorated. And don't forget to try out the two most comfortable leather recliners in the living room! You will have plenty of room, indoors and out, if you want to seek out a quiet reading spot or nap opportunity. Thank you, George! We will be back!

The most relaxing a,nd gorgeous cabin.

I packed paper plates and pots and pans and everything else I thought it would need. When I arrived with my party the whole cabin was stocked with anything you could dream of to cook along with games and other methods of entertainment. The property is about a 30 mile drive from Pembrook (sp?) where we went kayaking for a 3 hour, 8 mile adventure. It was like an obstacle course and was a very cathartic experience. This is a place I can see myself vacationing at every summer 10/10.

Just the family trip we were looking for!

We had a wonderful time at the Lodge! We were celebrating two 40th birthdays and a 4 year old's birthday and there was something for everyone. No phone, no work - just relaxing, bonfires, outdoor games, sitting in the river and soaking up some awesome family time! The great room of this home is so unique and feels like a special place filled with a lot of memories! There were 10 adults and 3 kids (12, 8 and 4) and we had plenty of space to spread out and got a kick out of all of the doors around upper level that you could see from the main floor. We shot skeet one morning down at the designated area, played in the yard and consumed a lot of food and drinks. George, the owner, was very responsive! Thanks for sharing with our family!

Annual Fishing Weekend

A group of us get together every year for a long weekend of fishing and catching up. The Bear Creek Lodge didn't disappoint for this year's gathering. We had 8 in our group and each of us had our own room and bed, which is great after a full day of fishing. To say the living quarters are expansive would be an understatement...from the great fire place in the living room with 30 foot ceilings to the dining table that could easily seat 15 or more, to the pool/ping pong table room to the multiple covered porches. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and then some and there were two grills ready to go, along with plenty of charcoal and firewood on hand. The setting was secluded, with a quality trout stream right on the property and in close proximity to world class water. The owner was in contact a number of times, providing fishing reports, directions and assistance. We would do it again next weekend if we could, but we know that we'll certainly be back again.

Thanksgiving magic

Spent three nights over Thanksgiving tucked away in the woods of Michigan with 16 family members and had the most MEMORABLE TIME.

House was perfectly suited for our needs. Plenty of room and never felt crowded.

Hiked on property, bonfires, and just spent time all together. There was even some kids toys including brio trains that made the littles very happy!

The furniture is in GREAT SHAPE- super clean, comfortable and nice. Showers were hot.

All in all we had the most fantastic time and are already planning a trip back!!!

Amazing

The lodge was wonderful and was represented well on the website. There were no surprises upon arrival, other than the delight in how truly beautiful it was. If you're looking for a family vacation where everyone is under one roof, this is the place to stay. There were enough rooms so we weren’t on top of each other, but still together (14-people in our party, one in a wheelchair, 1 child and the rest 16 years & over). Every detail including the large bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. Everyone was able to enjoy every minute of the gorgeous morning and evening views - It honestly took our breath away to see all of this nature. Every detail was thoroughly thought through and we absolutely loved the large dining table as we all could eat together as a family. Laundry room, game room, and board games were so appreciated. The details and care the owner took prior to our arrival, including written directions to refer to, versus using GPS to find the cabin, was extremely helpful. Not to mention his checking with us to make sure we made it there OK.

We had 8 adults and enjoyed catching up by the fire and playing games. This is a great part of the state with lots to do and wildlife to experience. George is a great host and checked in with us during our stay to be sure we had everything we needed. This is an authentic cabin in the woods that can easily accommodate a crowd. Would highly recommend it!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. There was 18 of us and we had plenty of room to hang out and spend time together. We loved the way the cabin is set up! There is a lot to do on and around the grounds. The kids enjoyed going down the river in inner tubes. We also played frisbee, had a bon fire, barbecue, and looked for toads. Everyone had a blast!!

Perfect place for groups!

Date of Stay: Jun 14, 2017

We stayed at the Bear Creek Lodge for my annual birthday kayak weekend (kayaked the Au Sable - beautiful!) Our car had no trouble finding the place, but some who came up later, especially in the dark, did. Make sure you type in the exact street name as there are two that are similar. Once you get there the place is absolutely gorgeous! We loved all of the themed rooms, large open "great room", huge fully stocked kitchen, game room with every DVD you will need if there are rain showers (including the Great Outdoors) + extra fridge, and a porch with a big grill and fire pit. Seriously everything we needed was provided! The river is a quick walk away and we enjoyed sitting in our chairs right in the middle of it. We also utilized the clay pigeon thrower which was a lot of fun for our shooting aficionados. The only problem, totally out of the owner's control, was the massive tick problem this year. Make sure to check out reports on the insect population and check often. There is plenty of spray provided if you need it, and a washer/dryer if you want to take extra precautions and throw you clothes in after a hike in the woods. George has a real gem in the Bear Creek Lodge and we hope to visit again in the winter to enjoy the huge fireplace!

The best TIME of our lives

Date of Stay: May 31, 2016

First off, this review is a little late, we stayed a couple years ago and were just talking about renting it again! We had a large family stay over a long weekend! About 14 people :) our whole family had a BLAST! We took some nature hikes! The table for our whole family for dinners and we had a blast cooking! We played tons of games and had fires, we enjoyed the whole weekend and talk about it all the time. We refer to it as "Cabin in the woods" what a wonderful stay what a wonderful place. And the most exciting experience was when we were driving out to it on those crazy back roads a bald eagle swooped down and flew parerell with our car, we were all awe struck! We knew then it was going to be an amazing weekend!

This was our first time staying at the lodge   and all I have to say is this place is amazing. The lodge is very comfortable   and there is plenty of beds for guests to sleep. The lodge has an old rustic   feel but still has digital tv and good cell phone service. If you like to   fish or hunt this is the place for you, there are numerous lakes to fish in   the area and great trout fishing right at the lodge or if you like to fly   fish the holy water of the famous Ausable river is just a short drive up the   road. I think this cabin has everything you could ever need including grills,   pots and pans, utensils, bedding and blankets, dishwasher, two stoves, lots   of firewood already provided. The owners have been nothing but pleasant and   very helpful with this whole experience from the beginning. My friends and   family were so impressed that everyone wants to make bear creek lodge and   annual event, I would highly recommend staying at bear creek lodge!

5   years and counting! Our favorite Winter Retreat!

Date   of Stay: Jan   13, 2016

I have made 5 years of some of the most   magical memories at the Bear Creek Lodge. Me and Crew (on average 14-16   folks) travel up each January for a time of reflection, rest, mild   debauchery, drinks, laughter, board games, excellent food and fellowship.   Each year, we come back more refreshed than the previous year and moreover   our bonds of friendship strengthens. All of this happens in the backdrop of   the charming property. Sitting on over 100 acres, the spacious lodge boasts   of 7 themed rooms, although the house could probably sleep up to 20 folks   comfortably. While we loved the old furniture they had in 2015, they've   updated the couches in the Great Room (where we've had many a long talk or an   awesome game of Mafia (Clue without the board game) in front of the huge fire   place) and added a big screen television equipped with Direct TV. It was easy   to plug our gaming system in to play games and watch movies. The other thing   I really love about the space is that no matter how many folks you travel   with, you won't bump into each other. There's plenty of room including their   gorgeous pool room where games of pool while simultaneously watching old   movies went down nightly. The kitchen has two stoves and there are two   refrigerators. In the winter, we put all of our soda and water on the back   porch. There are enough pots, pans, and dishware to service a small army.   Plenty of blankets and extra supplies (toilet paper/paper towels/cleaning   supplies) make it easy to just bring clothes to lounge in and not worry about   anything. I spent a great deal of time chilling in the kitchen area cooking   for our group and catching up with the women on the trip. There's comfortable   new wicker furniture in the nook and sturdy bar stools to make the kitchen a   dope area to hang in as well. Michael, the owner, is a quick phone call or   email away and there are property managers in the area to meet our needs   should something come up (in 5 years, we've never had to phone them for an   emergency as they provide you with a ton of info that makes it easy to   navigate the home and the general community we're settled in). In the summer,   we've enjoyed bonfires and had to only take a short road trip (45 minutes) in   Mio for canoeing at Hinchman Acres. It's truly a home away from home and has   become a very special tradition that we hope to carry on as long as the house   remains opened to guests. You're going to love this space.
